Who Is Wasim Akram?
Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Wasim Akram is considered one of the all-time greats of cricket and is addressed by his legendary nickname. He possessed no first-class experience, but his journey began as a natural talent discovered in tryouts. Throughout his illustrious career spanning 1984 to 2003, Akram earned the nickname of “King of Swing” due to his mastery of reverse swing and lethal yorkers. He achieved a phenomenal 502 ODI and 414 Test wickets. Together with Waqar Younis, he formed a world-class bowling duo and was a key factor in Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup triumph.
Because he blended exceptional skill with shrewd strategy, Akram’s impact on cricket extended beyond statistics. His superb swing and deceptive deliveries, which put hitters constantly in doubt, made him a revolutionary force in fast bowling.
After retiring, Akram transitioned into coaching and commentating, most notably as a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders, who won the Indian Premier League in 2012 and 2014. In recognition of his contributions to cricket, he was inducted into the International Cricket Hall of Fame, among other accolades. Along with playing cricket, he promotes youth cricket in Pakistan, supports many philanthropic organizations, and works to increase awareness of diabetes, a cause he has been leading since 1997.

Wasim Akram, a left-handed batsman and left-arm fast bowler, made his debut for his country in 1984 (ODI) and 1985 (Test). In 104 Test matches, he collected 414 wickets and 2,898 runs, while in 356 ODIs, he claimed 502 wickets and 3,717 runs.

After sustaining an injury in the late 1980s and requiring several operations, Akram’s expertise of swing bowling allowed him to make a spectacular recovery.
